Protect Your Child With Martial Arts Did you know that a child is reported abducted or missing every 40 seconds in the United States and that most potential abductors make their first contact with the children they abduct within one-quarter of a mile from their homes? It is now more important than ever to start (or continue) giving your children the tools they need to protect themselves: Never leave young children unattended anywhere and have older children practice a buddy system with their peers. Teach your children their full name, your name, your address, and telephone number. Teach them how to dial and use 911 or your equivalent emergency number. Teach your children about strangers, to never talk to strangers, and to never go near strangers. Give your children the confidence, strength, skills, and mental awareness they need to defend themselves if they ever find themselves in a shady situation with a stranger or someone they know – enroll them in a martial arts class. It can ...

Learn Real Self-Defense Martial Arts Training for Real Self-Defense According to the FBI, four women die daily due to domestic violence, and about 130,000 women report being victims of rape or attempted rape annually. Because of statistics like this, many women enroll in self-defense classes to learn the skills they need to defend themselves.     A short-term self-defense class may not address all the areas you need to be able to defend yourself fully. While martial arts classes won’t specifically train you for combat and fighting, they will give you the ability to protect yourself if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to practice self-defense. The best part is that this self-defense isn’t always physical. Most people don’t know that in a good martial arts program, you’ll learn various skills to gain the awareness, peace, and physical conditioning to be a stronger person in all aspects of your life.    Confidence All the physical defense ...

Obesity in Adolescents You see it every day, news and information that bring to the front our problem with our weight. It’s not just the older sedentary population or the overworked middle-age population. It is a national epidemic. The first question we should be asking is how did we get here? How did we go from one of the most physically fit nations to just wallowing in our weight?   Over the last thirty years, food nutritionists and the food industry have embraced the idea of lowering our fat intake. This was a direct result of the information published by the government that encouraged less egg consumption because of the cholesterol found in eggs. After that information, doctors discovered that when we consume fat, we have higher incidences of cholesterol problems. The logical conclusion: fat must be bad for you. Learn Meditation Quiet Reflection: Renew Your Spirit for Life Modern alternative medicine and holistic healers believe in the power of the energy that flows through our bodies. This energy radiates from our minds as well. It is believed to be the dominant form of transportation for our body’s nervous system to communicate. Breathing techniques, music, aromas, and candle therapy are all ways we utilize the opportunities to reflect on our day, allow our mind to rest, and replenish itself for further use. However, the great benefit of meditation is the mind’s ability to transform itself into a vehicle for higher awareness. Meditation is a way for us to become aware that there is more to our being than just our physical activity. We have so much more potential locked away in our minds, resources that we never tap into until we have the chance to quiet the mind, quiet our surroundings and open the door to the possibilities we do not examine on a day-to-day basis.   Our spirit is the rea...

History and Basic Principles of Kung Fu Historically, "Kung Fu" is not featured in any ancient texts. It was first coined by a Frenchman named Jean Joseph Marie Amiot, a missionary who lived in the 18th Century, about Chinese martial arts. Kung Fu is also called Gongfu, Wushu, or Kuoshu, and originally denotes expertise in any skill and is not exclusive to martial arts. Brief History: The practice, philosophy, and concept of Kung Fu can be traced back to ancient Chinese texts such as Zhuang Zi, Dao De Jing, and Sun Zi Bing Fa Yu San Shi Liu Ji (Art of War written by Sun Tzu), all written between 1111-255 BC. These texts contain passages related to the practice, propagation, and principles of Chinese martial arts, or Kung Fu as it is known today. One theory regarding the first written history of Kung Fu suggests that the Yellow Emperor, who reigned from 2698 BC, wrote the first treatise on Chinese martial arts. Others credit Taoist monks for introducing an art form resembling...
